At Edinburgh the thretty day of march Jaj vjc nynty and sex years

Anent the petitione given in to the Lords of his majesties privie Councill by George Forbes prisoner in the Cannongate Tolbooth Shewing that where the said petitioner haveing been comeing from Prestonpans in his way to Edinburgh was apprehended near to Jock’s Lodge by ane pairtie and therafter examined by Leutt Coll Bruce and Major Cunynghame who was by them againe comitted to the Guaird and therafter upon some misinformatione imprisoned notwithstanding that he gave ane full and true account of himself as now he does viz That their Lordships petitioner being rendered incapable of any military service by ane shot through the elbow of the right arme at Gillicrankie and that ever since hes not only Lived upon what he then had and his relations gave him (2not being able to help himself but also hes lived peaceably and quyetly under the present goverment and that noe particular Cryme can in the Leist be Laid to his charge either by actions or consultations any maner of way and that He being formerlie apprehended was examined by Sir Patrick Murray then one of their Lordships number and upon his report was immediatly Liberat out of the Guard as Mr Crighton their Lordships under Clerk could testifie and seeing that dureing this Juncture the said petitioner hes waited very patiently and not troubled their Lordships hettherto either for ane Aliment or Liberatione and now not being able any Longer to subsist his circumstances deserves their Lordships Commiseratione And therfore humblie Craveing in maner and to the effect aftermentioned as the said petitione bears
The Lords of his Majesties privie Councill haveing considered the said petitione given in to them by the said George Forbes They Hereby recomend to Sir Thomas Livingstone Commander in Cheiff of his Majesties forces within this Kingdome To take tryall and consider the Case And condition of the said petitioner With power to the said Sir Thomas to give order to the Magistrats of the Cannongate and keeper of their Tolbooth To Liberat the said petitioner free of house dues (3if the said Sir Thomas Livingston shall find just or otherwayes to report
