Recomendatione Captaine Maitland and Ballachan and his brother

Anent the petitione given in to the Lords of his majesties Privie Councill by James Maitland prisoner in the Cannongate Tolbooth Shewing That whereas the said petitioner being formerlie incarcerat the said Lords upon informatione of the circumstances of his and his numerous familey were pleased to ordaine him to be liberat upon his finding sufficient Cautione for his peaceable behavioure that he should act nothing against the Government and that he should appear againe before their Lordships when called and accordinglie he being called did compeir and their Lordships have been pleased to committ him prisoner to the Cannongate Tolbooth against which he does not reclaime But in all humility represent to their Lordships That he hes noe fortune wherupon to Subsist in prisone nor to supplie his wyfe and sex Childreren whilst in this conditione And therfore humblie Craveing in maner and to the effect aftermentioned as the said petitione at length bears The Lords of his Majesties privie Councill haveing considered the said petitione given in to them by the said Captain James Maitland They hereby recomend to the Lords Commissiones of his Majesties Thesaurie To allow the said petitioner such ane aliment as they shall think competent, and to reconsider the aliment alreadie allowed to Patrick Stueart of Ballachine and Alexander Stueart his brother and to restrict the same if they shall find it too Liberall ane aliment
