Procedure
Additione to Comittie anent Highland Clans and extended to the peace of the haill Kingdome and To draw bands theranent
The Lords of his majesties privie Councill doe hereby add his grace the Duke of Queensberry to the Earles of Leven and Annandale the Lord Carmichall Lord Justice Clerk and Sir Thomas Livingstoune Commander in Cheiff of his Majesties forces within this Kingdome To the Comittie formerlie appoynted anent the ceitting of the Chiftaines of Highland Clan’s And recomend’s to the said Committie to Consider not only how the publict peace may be keept in the Highlands but through the whole Kingdome als weill Lowland as Highlands and how the Countrey may be put not only in a posture of defence for resisting any invasione which is or may be designed from abroad but Lykewayes for suppressing any disturbance or insurrectione which may be raised from evill affected persones at Home and To prepare a draught of a bond to be given by Heretors for themselves their servants Tenents and others dwelling in their Lands or under their Command against invasions or insurrectiones and for adhering to his majestie and the Government as now Established by Law and uniteing for the just defence of his Majestie and the same And to prepare a draught of a bond to be subscryved by all Heretors to the effect foresaid and for distinguishing freinds from foes And To Consider how the militia of the Kingdome or any part thereof may be most easilie armed and called out when his Majesties service and the Government may stand in need of the same These called out being alwayes secured from being troubled as Desertors except from the militia when called out And how the foresaid bond may be generallie put to the Haill Heretors within this Kingdome And declairs any seven of the above Committie and additione hereby made thereto to be a sufficient quorum and recomends to the said Comittie to meet this day at four in the afternoone and to make ther report to the Councille in the haill matter against their next dyet of meeting
