Letter from the King Anent Country and Militia

Right trustie and right well beloved Councellor Right trustie and Intirely beloved Cousin and Councelor Right trustie and right well Beloved Cousins and Councelors Right trustie and well beloved Cousins and Councelors Right trustie and well Beloved Councelors And trustie and well beloved Councelors We Greet yow well Whereas we formerly acquainted yow that we have Ground to believe ther is a designe to Invade that our Kingdome And that therfor the same ought to be putt in a posture of defence We doe againe Recommend to yow the doing therof with all dilligence yow did formerly Lay before us Some proposalls for modelling our Militia To which we did Give our Royall approbation by our Letter to yow dated the fourth of May Last And we now think it fitt that yow again take these proposalls to your Consideration And that as soon as possible yow Endeavour to make them effectuall And in such methods as may be Least burthensome to the Countrey In the mean tyme It is our pleasure that the Militia foot regiments of the tounes of Edinburgh and Glasgow And of the three Shires of Lothian and the Shire of Fife be raised and rendivouzed That they may be in a readiness to Joyne our standing forces In case ther shall be need or occasion for it And what we now order is without prejudice of what furder yow shall find necessary for the defence of that our Kingdome And expecting your care and dilligence in this We bid yow heartily fareuell Given att our Court at Kensingtoune the fourth day of December Jaj vic nyntie six years And of our reigne the Eight year By his Majesties Command Sic Subscribitur James Ogilvie.
After reading of this Letter The Councill recomended to the provost of Edinburgh present at the Councill board to Cause rendivouz the halfe of the foot militia of Edinburgh in the begining of the nixt week with all care and dilligence.
