Order

Express anent putting the Countrey in posture of Defence and Duke Gordons Confynment

The Lord Chancellor acquainted the Councill That he had received ane express from the Lord Secretary Murray That the King hes ordered him to signifie That his Majestie is informed That the ships from Dunkirk are sailled northward and that the Duke of Berwick is with them and requyreing the countrey especially the Coast syde to be put in a posture of defence And upon recept of it he sent ordor to Committ the Duke of Gordone Prisoner to the Castle of Edinburgh where he is now in Custodie The Councill approves of the Lord Chancellors giveing ordor for imprisoning the Duke of Gordon and Recomends to the Earle of Leven Governour of the Castle of Edinburgh and gives ordor and warrand to the other Commanding officers there to detaine the said Duke of Gordon prisoner in the said Castle till farder ordor sic subscribitur Southerland Lauderdale Kintore Raith Carmichaell Polwarth Adam Cockburne Archibald Murray T Livingstoune.
