The Following Commission In favoures of Mr Frances Montgomery being read was ordered to be recorded wherof the tenor folloues
sic suprascribitur William Rex
William by the Grace of god King of Scotland England France and Ireland defender of the faith etc To our Truistie and uell beloved Councelor Mr Frances Montgomery Greeting We reposing trust and Confidence in your fidelity Courage and good Conduct Have nominated Constituted and appointed And by these presents doe nominat Constitut and appoint yow to be Governour of our Castle of Dumbartone and also Captain of the Company of foot in garrisone therin In place of Major […] Buntyne formerly Governour therof Giving heirby unto yow full pouer and authority to Command our said Castle And to Arme trayne exercise Lead and Conduct our said Company for our service in all things belonging to the trust and Command aforsaid and to Enjoy all other privileges and emoluments formerly belonging to the Governours of our said Castle And we doe heirby requyre all the officers and souldiers in our said garrisone to obey yow in all things for our service as their Governour and Captaine And yourself Lykewise to observe and follow all such orders, directions and Commands as yow shall from tyme to tyme receave from us In pursuance of the speciall trust heirby reposed in yow Given under our royall hand and signet at our Court at Kensingtoune the 26 day of march 1696 and of our reigne the seventh year By his Majesties Command sic subscribitur James Ogilvie
