Associatione begun to be subscribed at Edinburgh Aprile 10th 1696
The Bond of Associatione uith a Clause added against Invasions transcribed in Mundo upon parchment and signed by the whole Councelers who were present at this sederunt Folloues the tenor of the associatione
Wee the Lords and others of his Majesties privy Councell with the noblemen Gentlemen and others undersubscribing Considering That ther hes been a horride and detestable Conspiracy formed and Carryed on by papists and wicked and traiterous persons For assassinating his Majesties sacred persone In order to usher in and facilitat a formidable and Cruell Invasion from France To the ruine and extirpation of our religion Laws and Liberties Doe therfore heartily sincerely and solemnly profess Testifie and Declare That his present Majestie King William Is rightfull and Laufull King of this realme And we doe mutuallie promise and solemnly Engage and obleidge ourselves to stand by and assist one another to the outmost of our pouer in the support and defence of his Majesties most sacred persone and government and of the true protestant Religione against the Late King James and the pretended prince of Scotland Commonly called the pretended prince of Wales and all their adherents and against all forraign invasions or Intestine Insurrections that shall be attempted or made to disturb his Majesties right and possession And in case his Majestie Come to any violent or untymely Death (which god of his infinite mercy avert) we Doe heirby further freely and unanimously obleidge ourselves to unite, associat and stand by each other in revenging the same upon all his majesties Enemies and their adherents and in supporting and defending the successor of the Croune according to the declaration of the Estates of this Kingdome
