Oath of alleadgeance and assurance Lord Murray secretary of state

The Lord Justice Clerk haveing presented to the Councill the oath of alleadgeance and assurance sworn and signed by John Lord Murray as one of the principall secretaries of state In presence of the Earles of Melvill Leven and Selkrig and his majesties Advocat at Kensingtoune the threttie first day of January Last which being read the Councill appoynts the same to be recorded in their books follows the oath of alleadgeance I doe sincerely promise and swear That I shall be faithfull and bear true alleadgeance to his Majestie King William so help me God sic subscribitur Murray
I John Lord Murray principall secretary of state for Scotland doe in the sincerity of my heart assert acknowledge and declare That his majestie King William is the only Lawfull and undoubted Soveraigne of this Realme als weill de jure, that is of Right, King as de facto, That is in the possessione and exercise of the Government and therfore I doe sincerly and faithfully promise and engadge That I with heart and hand, lyfe and goods mantaine and defend his majesties Title and Government against the Late King James and his Adherents and all other Enemies who either by open or secret attempt shall disturb or disquiet his majestie in the possessione and exercise thereof.
At Kensingtoune the threttie first day of January 1695/6. The whilk day in presence of us George Earle of Melvill David Earle of Leven Charles Earle of Selkirk and Sir James Stueart his majesties Advocat Compeared John Lord Murray and Craved to take the oath of alleadgeance to his majestie and to subscryve the assureance as one of the principall Secretaries of State for Scotland which oath of alleadgeance was accordingly administrat To him by us and with the assureance subscryved in our presence place day moneth and year of God abovewryten sic subscribitur Melvill Leven Selkirk James Stueart
