Proclamatione for apprehending the persons afternamed as haveing been in France contrair to the acts of parliament

The proclamatione underwryten being read voted approven and signed was ordered to be recorded whereof the tenor followeth A Proclamatione for apprehending the persons afternamed as haveing been in France contrair to the acts of parliament William by the Grace of God King of great Brittain France and Ireland defender of the faith To etc macers of our privy Councill Messengers at armes our Shirriffs in that part conjunctlly and severallie specially constitut greeting Forasmuch as by the eight act of the fourth sessione of this our Currant parliament It is statute and ordained That none of the subjects within this kingdome without express Leave from our privy Councill should presume to goe to the kingdome of France or any of the dominions subject to the French King after the first day of June Jaj vjc nynty and three years, or being already in the said kingdome of France or Countreys foresaid should presume to stay or abyde therein after the first day of August then next to come without express Leave from us or our privy Councill under the paine of Treasone Nevertheless in manifest contempt of the foresaid act of parliament and us and our authoritie […] Grahame younger of that ilk […] Irvine of Stepletoune and Captaine […] Mair have dared presumptuouslie to repaire and goe to the said kingdome of France or being therein to remaine and continue within the same after the tymes prefixed by the foresaid act of parliament whereby they have manifestly incurred the paine of treasone specified in the said act And we being informed That the said guilty persons are returned to and Lurk within this our Ancient Kingdome without being seized upon and brought to condigne punishment as their crime deserv’s Therefore we with advyce of the Lords of our privie Councill hereby requyre and Command the Shirriffs of the severall Shyres within this kingdome and their deputs The 2 Stuearts of the Stueartries Baillies of Regalities and their Deputs and magistrats of burghs within their respective jurisdictions To search for take and apprehend all and every one of the persons abovenamed and Committ them to saffe custodie and sure firmance and detaine them prisoners within ther respective Tolbooths untill they brought to tryall and condigne punishment for the Crymes abovewryten and that they report their dilligence in the premisses to the Lords of our privie Councill betwixt and the first day of Apryle next to come under the paine of being reckoned countenancers of and Connivers at the said treasonable persons as also we with advyce foresaid impower and Command all the officers of our Armie and our other good subjects within this kingdome to seize upon take and apprehend all or any of the persones abovenamed wherever they can be discovered and delyver them to the next magistrat to be committed and detained prisoners in maner abovespecified And to the effect none of our good subjects may be insnared or made partakers of the guilt of the said persons by ther lurking among them we with advyce foresaid strictly prohibite and discharge any of our Subjects within this Kingdome to harbour reset provyde or any wayes releive and supply any of the foresaid persones but that they delyver them up to one or other of the magistrats foresaid to be proceeded against according to Justice under the pains contained in the acts of parliament made thereanent Our will is Herefore and we charge you strictly and Command That incontinent these our Letters seen ye pass to the marcat Cross of Edinburgh and remanent marcat Crosses of the Haill head burghs of the severall shyres and stueartries within this Kingdome And there in our name and Authoritie by open proclamatione make intimatione hereof that none pretend ignorance And ordains these presents to be printed Given under our signet at Edinburgh the twelth day of march and of our Reigne the seventh year Jaj vjc nynty and sex years sic subscribitur Tweddale Cancell Queensberry Southerland Argyle Lauderdale Annandale Forfar Kintore Murray Raith John Lauder W Anstruther
