Anent a Petition given into the Lords of their majesties privy Councill be John Beatton prisoner in the Tolbooth of Edinburgh Shewing That the petitioner haveing these severall years very faithfully served their majesties in Flanders in the station of ane serjant And one the account of his preferment did his oun officers Recommend him to the Lord Strathnavers major, For helping of whose recruites did the petitioner come heir and no sooner was he come on Scotish ground Bot ther was ane warrand Issued out by my Lord Advocat for apprehending seazing and Imprisoneing the petitioners persone as being guilty of the killing of one William Foullfoot in Flanders, wheras the informatione is so unjust as he altogither refuses the samen And it was hoped the saids Lords would Judge it very hard that a persone in their majesties service would be Imprisoned without any Shaddow of probatione And Therfore Humbly Craveing the saids Lords would not deny him a hearing before some of their oun number to the effect that such methods should be taken theranent as their Lordships thought fitt and witnesses (if ther be anie) might be received Otherwayes that the petitioner might be presently sett at libertie. As the petition bears The Lords of their Majesties privy Councill haveing Considered this peition given in to them be the above John Beatton They heirby give order and warrand to the magistrats of Edinburgh and keeper of their Tolbooth to sett the petitioner at libertie and deliver him to the Lord Strathnaver with whom he is ingadged as a serjant in their Majesties service.
