Act
Act In favors of the heritors of South Leith.
Anent the petition given in to the Lords of their majesties privy Councill be the kirk session and heritors of the parish of South Leith Humbly Shewing That wheras in pursuance of the saids Lords proclamatione2 founded on the acts of parliament anent the poor and beggers They hade after publict and tymeous intimation mett and in their said meettings sett doune and mett execut account of what Charges the maintaineing of their poor would requyre, And of the fonds in the hands and manadgment of the kirk session that might be therto applyed, And what is wanting to be supplyed by the heritors and other inhabitants of the place, All which they hade done with ther best care and with the consent of all the heritors that keeped their meetting and of the magistrats of the place concurring with them, And doe heirwith also produce extracts of the forsaids overtures and lists agrees upon for the ends forsaids Wherby wanting on their part to bring this Laudable work to a Just accomplishment Nevertheless it is of veritie that ther are severall heritors and inhabitants Refractory who have not only refused payment of the Small thing3 Imposed upon them bot have also abstracted ther weekly Charity at the kirk door this half year bygone and are not Likely in time comeing to behave better Wherfore necessar it is that they have the saids Lords authority Interposed in this matter and that letters may be directed upon the forsaid rolls alse weell for bygones as in time comeing to cause them to make payment or that the saids Lords would allow the magistrats of burghs and the sheriff of Landwart to poynd sumarly for that end, and that no suspension be granted except upon payment or if granted Otherwayes to declare and certifie that the persone Suspending if the suspensione be discussed in his contrary shall by the same Decreet be Decerned each of them in the Soume of twentie punds Scots for expenses and damnadges it being visibly Imposible to effectuat so good a work at a low rate, And Therfore Humbly Craveing to the effect underwritten as the petition it self at more length bears With the which petition the petitioners of the quotta land upon the heritors and inhabitants of the said parish for mantaineing the poor quherof the tenor Followes Roll of the heritors ther monethly proportion of the quotta land on by the meetting of the heritors and session of
