Anent the petitione Given in to the Lords of there majesties privie Councill be James Jarvie skipper in Alloway prisoner in the tolbooth of Edinburgh Shewing That the Supplicant being Incarcerat in the tolbooth of Edinburgh By there Lordships warrand and keept closs prisoner as If he hade knowen or been accessorie to the furnishing the Bass with the coalls that were Loadened aboord the petitioners bark desinged and furnished for Arroll near Pearth It is humbly represented to there Lordships that it is notour in the place where the petitioner Lives, His true and honest zeall to the protestant Religion and the present government as it is established by law And that he hes ane detestatione and aborrence to any such principles as would Enervat the samen any manner of way And being Conscious of his oune Innocencie in this case being but ane Simple Illiterat man Beggs only that the saids Lords would out of there Clemencie and Compassione Commiserat the petitioners conditione with that of his small familyes and bigg bellyed wyfe who is now near her tyme of delyverie And aither examine the petitioner upon what Interrogators there Lordships shall think fitt or else ordaine ane formall process to be proceeded in And that in the mean tyme The petitioner his poor wyfe and family may not sterve (The petitioners Imployment as seaman being all there subsistance) That there Lordships would modifie what aliment They should fitt for ane subsistance In case the Saids Lords think fitt to keep the petitioner any Longer in prisone As the said petitione bears The Saids Lords of there majesties privie Councill haveing considered this petitione given in to them be the said James Jarvie They hereby give order and warrand to the magistrats of Edinburgh and Keeper of there tolbooth to sett the said petitioner at Liberty furth thereof.
