Anent a Petition given in to the Lords of their majesties privy Councill be William Mure Smith in Musleburgh Shewing that quher the petitioner haveing some housses Lying near the Tolbooth of Muslburgh, The officers for present in that Toune have every night for the Space of a moneth of therby Sett two centinells upon the tope of one of the petitioners houses, which they hade altogither pulled doune outsyde and insyde latching and plaistering and not yet therwith content They have come upon another house belonging to the petitioner and qurin he and hid familly dwells and are doeing the like with it, So that he will be necessitate to remove himself and familly therfrom least the Samen Should with the other be throwen doune about his ears, And the petitioner haveing meaned himself to the magistrats of Muslburgh for redressing this griveance, They Declared it was not in their power to help it, Which has given Occasion to the petitioner to trouble the saids Lords with the Same That further Skaith and damnadge might be prevented without which the petitioner would be utterly ruined And Therfore Humbly Craveing the saids Lords In Consideration of the said loss the petitioner hade been at (2The damnadge he hade sustained allready amounting to upwards of ane hundred pund That they would be pleased to fall upon some effectuall way both for dischargeing of the saids centinells from troubling and mollesting of the petitioner in the possession of his dwalling house, And for preventing for ther damnage to him and repairing of his Losses allready Sustained, The Lords of their majesties privy Councill Haveing Considered the above petition given in to them be the above William Muir They heirby Recomend to Sir James Lessly Commander in Cheiff for the tyme of their majesties forces within this kingdome to take tryall who are the officers Comanding in Muslburgh and to send for and examineing the saids officers upon the subject matter of this petition and returne his Report to the privy Councill in wryt.
