Letter from the King anent the said Impositione

Right Trustie and Right uell Beloved Cousine and Councellor Right trustie and Entirely beloved Cousin and Councellor Right trustie and right uell beloved Cousins and Councellors Right trustie and uell beloved Cousins and Councellors Right trustie and uell beloved Councellors Trustie and uell beloved Councellors Ue Greet yow uell Uheras in the Instructiones we Gave to our Commissioner for holding the last session of the present Currant parliament we Impoured him to Give our assent to ane Act to be brought in for releive of the toune of Glasgow as to the payment of their debts In prosecutione quherof we understand that ther is ane Act past in the last sessione of parliament Giving and Granting to the said toune for the end forsaid The Impositione of tuo pennies scotts over and above our annexed excyse and the Late additionall excyse upon the pynt of all Ale and Beer to be brouen and Inbrought and vended uithin the said burgh and Liberties therof and that during such space of years as it should please us to appoynte not exceeding the number of threttine years as the Just space and tyme calculat for the payment and discharge of the tounes debts And ue being very uilling to acknouledge the fidelity and good affectione that the said burgh hath on all occasions expressed touards us and our Government And to Incouradge them to persist therin for the future Have Therfore thought fitt Heirby to Declare our uill and pleasure in the premisses viz That the forsaid Impositione shall Continow and Endure to the said toune the whole forsaid space of threttine yeirs Contained in the said Act sicklyke and in the same manner as if the said number of years had been absolutely therin sett doune And this declaratione of our royall pleasure we heirby will and ordor to be not only Recorded in the books of our privy Councell But also in the books of our Exchequer and sessione To the end The same may be made publict And that the forsaid Act may hencefurth take effect According to the tenor therof in all poynts And so we bid yow heartily Fareuell Given at our Camp at Lembeck the fourteenth day of Agust old style 1693 And of our Reigne the fifth year By his Majesties Command sic subscribitur James Stevenson
