Letter from the Councell To the Queen
A Letter from the Councell to the Queens Majestie In ansuer to her Majesties to them of the Threttieth of september last Anent the hindering Cornes from being transported to France Redd votted approven and signed and ordored to be recorded Folloues the tenor of the Letter
May it please your sacred Majestie In obedience to your royall Command signified by your Majesties Letter of the threttieth of September Wee Have off new sett furth a proclamatione discharging the Carrying of Cornes from this Kingdome to that of France or any of the dominiones belonging to the French King aither directly and openly or Indirectly and by secret Contryvance And Have also strictly Commanded all magistrats and others concerned to take care that the said prohibitione be observed And to take security for that effect of all masters of shipps outuard bound in the surest Mainer Since the Begining of this warr uith France wee have had noe Informatione of Cornes exported from this Kingdome thither But to our Regrate The supply of Cornes that our Enemies have had from us Hath been by their privateers taking our ships all allongst our coasts and almost in our Harboures so that Cornes being a great part of our export Considerable quantaties therof Have fallen in their hands And tho upon a Representatione made by us the last year of this matter we had assurance Given of tuo or three frygotts to be sent from England to Guaird our Firth and north coasts yet on this occasione we must in all Humility Intreat your Majestie That what was then promised and Hath been soe long delayed To the prejudice of your Good subjects and the advantadge of your Enemies may now att Length be performed It May also be worthy of your Majesties Consideratione that Cornes being the great export of this kingdome as we have said And our deuty binding us up during this warr from sending them to some Forraigne pairts To which they were In use before to be2 Exported makes us Heartily wish that the Laues of England prohibiting the Import of Cornes from this kingdome alse much as from any forraigne Kingdome may be Reconsidered and relaxed since It uould not but Contribute to the benefite of England alse uell of Scotland And uould Certainly facilitat the affectiones of the subjects of both kingdomes soe Happily now of a Long tyme united to a more kyndlie and Closs concurrence for their mutuall defence and the better advancing of your Majesties service May it please your Majestie your Majesties most Loyall most Faithfull and most obedient subjects and servant sic subscribitur Tueeddall Cancel: Drumlangrig Southerland Linlithgow Leven Forfar Tarbat Rossh Polluarth James Steuart Adam Cockburne Ludowick Grant
