Act for punishing of tumults in Colledges

The Lords of there majesties privie Councill takeing to there Consideratione the tumults and dissorders which frequently fall out amongst And are Comitted by the students within the severall Colledges and universityes within this Kingdome And haveing Considered the report of a Comittee of there oune number appointed2 in this matter The saids Lords for preventing of any tumults or other dissorders within any of the saids Colledges and universityes for the future Doe hereby authorize and Impower the severall principles regents and maisters of the said Colledgs respective In case It shall happen hereafter any of the students of any of the Colledges abovementioned to comitt or be guilty of any tumults or other Enormous dissorder againest the quyet and good government of the saids Colledges To Impose and exact Fynes from such as they shall find guilty nor exceeding the respective and proportiones aftermentioned viz For ane nobleman or his eldest sone Ane Hundreth and Fifty pound scotts For ane Noblemans younger sones or barrones themselves or there eldest sones Ane Hundreth pounds for the younger sones of barrons or Gentlemen And for the sones of burgesses Fifty pound And for the Sones of Craftsmen or yeomen Fifty merks And that by and attour the reparatione of damnadges And The saids Lords doe hereby requyre and Comand the Magistrats of the respective burghes where the saids colledges are keept to Interpose there authority to the sentence of the saids maisters And to give them there assistance in executeing the same by Imprisonement If nead be is And allowes and appoints the Soumes that Shall be exacted for fynes In maner and for the causes abovementioned To be applyed for the use of the severall Bibliothecks of the saids Colledges And the saids Lords haveing revived ane act of Councill of the date the first day of Februarij Jaj vjc and seventy tuo prohibiting ane Colledge to receave any schollar from aneother Colledge They doe restrict the same to such schollars as have been removed for misdemainers of have fledd from discipline
